on this day in history – 9th October

Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara was shot and killed in a battle with Bolivian soldiers on this day, October 9th, 1967.

Guevara was born in Argentina in 1928 and became an expert in guerilla warfare after studying to become a doctor. He helped Fidel Castro come to power in Cuba, and held several important jobs in government before leaving Cuba to advance Marxism in other parts of south America, and in Congo, Africa.

Today, Guevara is widely acknowledged as being one of the most important political figures of the twentieth century. It’s just a pity today that all people know of him today is the famous portrait of him we see on the t-shirts of teenagers across the globe!

If you’ve got a che t-shirt but don’t know the guy with the beret is, look him up on wikipedia. Thanks.
