thank you for your comment. It’s interesting to note the different meanings in French and in English. Both words share the same basic meaning though, that of ‘unnecessary’. We can see from this example how sometimes ‘faux amis’ are born.
I have heared about redundancy for the first time. I have never seen it before. effectively, in french languge it has another meaning. Its meaning is especially related to informatic expression.

Oui, en effet ‘redundancy’ a le même sens que ‘redondance’ en français. Je trouve que le mot est très sevère quant on parle de licenciement économique – en anglais vous devenez ‘redundant’, comme ‘inutile’ ‘sans valeur’, ou plutôt c’est votre poste qui est ‘redundant’.
A propos du verbe (au passif) ‘to be fired’ attention! Il n’a pas du tout le même sens que ‘to be made redundant’. C’est plutôt l’argot comme ‘se faire virer’, la plupart du temps, pour faute professionnelle ou incompétence.
Je connaissais redundancy dans le sens redondance, car je suis informaticien.
