Verbes Irréguliers: groupe 3

Our third group of irregular verbs can be made from verbs that have a long vowel sound in the infinitive and a short vowel sound for the past simple and past participle:

Feel – felt (sentir, toucher, etc)
leave – left (quitter, partir, laisser)
Meet – met (rencontrer)
dream – dreamt (rever) – ‘dreamed’ is correct too.
mean – meant (signifier) -pronounced [ment]

We could add to this group:

read – read (lire) the past is pronounced [red]
say – said (dire) the past is pronouned [sed] and NOT ‘sayed’

Exercise:

Translate the following into English:

1. Qu’est-ce que tu as dit?
2. Je n’ai jamais lu ce roman.
3. Qu’est-ce que tu veux dire?
4. Il a quitté Paris il y deux ans.
5. Comment vous êtes vous rencontré?
6. J’ai revé de toi cette nuit.

  1. Thank U, Dear teacher for this exercise 3.
Unfortunately, I fail number 2: instead of novel I translate new; number 3: I translate like this: what do you want to say? number 4: I translate like: He left Paris for 2 years; number 6: I translate : I’ve dreamt for you this night.
    Thank you for correction!!

  2. This exercise was also good, although I did not to translate “roman”.
