to say or to tell?
En anglais, deux mots se traduisent comme ‘dire’ – say et tell.
‘to tell’ est également ‘raconter’, comme dans les phrases suivantes:
to tell a joke : raconter une blague
to tell a story: raconter une histoire
to tell a lie: raconter ou dire un mensonge
Quand on sait que ‘tell’ est plutôt ‘raconter’ la différence avec ‘say’ s’avère plus logique:
He says that it will rain today: il dit qu’il pleuvra aujourd’hui. (pas d’interlocuteur)
He tells me it will rain today : il me dit qu’il pleuvra…
